Necklace Project Day 9

I really don't think that this picture does this necklace justice but it is the best I could get. I love Dichroic glass beads and pendents, which are artisan beads made by putting metal in melting glass (I think). And I especially like the pieces I have bought from a lady up in Worland. She says that she likes to experiment and that she just throws things together and sees what happens. With this pendant she used iridescent wrapping paper in the glass. The paper burnt away leaving the iridescent material behind. So there is something of a butterfly shape in the pendant. I have two or three more pieces from her and I haven't found any other artist that makes Dichroic beads that I like as much.

Necklace Project Day 8

So I really like to watch award shows and look at jewelry in movies for inspiration on what to make and what I like. This necklace was inspired by the necklace that Jennifer Lopez wore in the movie Monster in Law.  Here is a picture of the necklace in the movie.
And here is the one I made. The stone is an opalite, which is recycled glass that has an opal like quality when shined with light. I love opalite and have a lot of beads.
I think the necklace in the movie has a gold chain  but this one is with silver. I made one for my sister Kelly with gold. I also have matching earrings, but they are made from moonstone.

Necklace Project Day 7

Today's necklace brought memories back to the trip I was one when I bought it. I bought this marcasite necklace on the second to the last day on the cruise I took to Hawaii in 2008. The ship we were on was being remodeled while we were out to sea and then would be put in dry dock when we got back for a complete remodel once we got back to the mainland. So the shops on the ship were getting rid of all their excess stuff at really good prices. So I bought this necklace, a Swarovski necklace, and a pashmina scarf.
This picture doesn't do it justice, but it is a really delicate necklace that shines in the sunlight. I have a marcasite ring, but I think I need to get some earrings. Yeah, Shopping!

Necklace Project Day 6

So I didn't really fall behind this weekend, I just didn't wear any jewelry this weekend. I guess that is some sort of excuse. Anyway, here is the necklace I wore today.
This necklace was definitely inspired by the earrings I usually wear with it. I felt like I didn't have enough green jewelry so I made these chandelier earring, but I wanted a necklace to go with it. So I found this pendent at Hobby Lobby and added the crystals to it. I usually wear my claddagh ring with this set too just to make myself feel more Celtic I guess.  :)

Necklace Project Day 4 & 5

I knew I was going to end up missing a day here and there. And I was tempted to just say never mind and try to catch up next week, but then I would have to load a whole bunch of pictures. So it is just easier to catch up on one day than three or four.

So on Thursday I wore this necklace.
It is gold with some sort of shell for the pendant. I bought this necklace at Kmart about four years ago. It was on clearance so it was probably only about $3 and it was different from any other necklace I had so I thought it would be a good addition. I have actually found a few really nice pieces of jewelry in the clearance bin at Kmart and Target. If I don't end up wearing the piece like it was originally made I will take it apart and use the pieces some other way.

Today I wore this necklace.
It is an authentic Zuni pendant. It is turquoise, lapis, and opal inlay in silver. This is the only piece of turquoise I own which is even hard for me to believe since I was born and raised in New Mexico. My Dad even ran a trading post on an reservation for a while when I was a kid, but I am pretty picky when it comes to turquoise. I thought that this was a piece that I got from my grandmother, but then I found out it was either found in a bunch of stuff my cousin was getting rid of, or it was in a suitcase that my parents got at a storage auction. Either way I love this necklace.

Necklace Project Day 3

So I had to really think about what I was going to wear today and for the rest of the week since I had to drive over to Green River today. So here is what I wore today.
This was actually a replacement necklace. It is one of the original Avon necklaces from when Avon started selling jewelry. This one is gold the one I replaced was silver. My sister accidentally ran over the silver one with the vacuum cleaner and destroyed it.  The only problem with this necklace is that the tips of the star are really sharp and I could accidentally get a tracheostomy if I am not careful.

Necklace Project Day 2

Well on my second day of this project I was pretty stressed about make sure that I am not just grabbing necklaces that I wear a lot. This one is a favorite but one I don't grab very often.

If you can't tell on this necklace it is a crystal with etching on it of the Libra symbol, which is my zodiac. It is kind of oddly shaped where the flat surface faces out so it kind of wobbles when I wear it, that or people try to fix it by turning it around the wrong way. I love this necklace not only because it has my zodiac but it is the first piece of jewelry my Mom gave me when I got back off of my mission. I have had to change the chain and bail on it twice because I would wear it so often.

Necklace Project Day 1

Like I need something else to do this semester, but I was thinking the other day that I have so many pretty necklaces that I hardly ever wear. There are my go to necklaces that I seem to always wear, but I have a jewelry armoire that is full but I might wear 2 dozen of the necklaces on a regular basis. So starting today I am going to try and wear a different necklace everyday until I have worn all of them. I am going to try and take pictures of each one and post it on here with the story of how I got it. I am sure a lot of them are either going to be that I bought them or made them but I do have quite a few that have been given to me.

SO here we go:

I added the earrings because these were given to me at the same time. It is a beautiful set of moonstone jewelry that Justin bought for me for my last birthday. He even let me pick them out. I love moonstone because it is easier to come by than real opal (which is my birthstone). I wear these a lot because it pretty much goes with everything.

Well it is a start. I will probably end up posting a couple pictures at a time when I get behind.

Enjoy!

P.S. I might eventually do my earrings after this, but I have a feeling I will be adding them in as I go. Plus, I am pretty sure I have bought or made most of my earrings.
