Necklace Project Days 50 & 51

Yep got behind again but only by one day. I guess I shouldn't say that it is getting behind unless it is over three days since my last post. At least that is how I am going to spin it to make myself feel better.

It wasn't really hard to figure out what I was going to wear on Sunday which was St. Patrick's Day. This was the only green necklace I brought. Granted I didn't need to wear a green necklace since I was wearing a green shirt but I wanted to. This is another one of my net stitch necklaces. I think I still have two more to wear before I get done. This one is a longer one so it sits pretty low.

My Mom made this one for me a few years ago. It is made of freshwater pearls and garnets. It is on a gun metal colored chain. I don't have earrings that match and I have been meaning to make some but have just never got around to it. This one is a little hard to wear sometimes because it is a little too formal for most of my outfits but not really formal enough for some of my others.

Necklace Project Days 47, 48, & 49

I didn't get behind again, I didn't. Okay, I did but that is because Aurora broke my necklace last night and I didn't have time to fix it before I went to be. And the night before was just so long that I kind of crashed when I got home from parent teacher conferences. Oh well, I got behind and now I have to catch up.

When I found this necklace again I was so very excited. I received this pendent from my friend who used to (I'm not sure if she still does) purchase stones and put them into settings. This is a white topaz in a simple setting. I had it on a longer chain but hardly ever wore it. So I put it on a shorter chain and then lost it in my jewelry armoire. Oh well, I have found it again so now I can wear it more often.

This was the necklace that Aurora broke. She has this weird habit of trying to cover up my necklace with my shirt, but this necklace wasn't long enough to go into my shirt. So she pulled too hard and the chain broke. Luckily I had the tool to fix the chain and I actually change the necklace a little so the jump ring wasn't just going through one ring of the chain but will now slide over the chain. Hopefully this will make it so it won't spin as much. It is a big pendent but it really dresses up a simple outfit. And since it is so big I don't feel like I need to wear big earrings with it.

I got this necklace from my Mom. This was the first gold-stone piece I ever got. She also gave me some earrings to go with it, but they were screw back posts and the irritated my ears so I had to give them back. So since I wanted earrings to match this necklace I bought some gold-stone beads and made my own. Now I want to get some blue gold-stone (which sounds silly to me) and make some other jewelry. Oh what am I going to do? Every time I get more jewelry or beads I just want more. It is an illness. :)

Necklace Project Day 46

So last night I had to pack to be in Green River for 12 days. I wasn't sure which necklaces I had already worn so I had look back on my blog posts. I am so glad I put pictures on here so I could quickly skim and see which ones I had already posted. And I think I am probably going to be finished with this project by the end of next month. I am happy that I was able to get this done, but I will also be happy when I am finished so I can start wearing my favorite necklaces again.

I bought this piece at Ross because I didn't think I had enough pearl jewelry. That and I thought I might want to take it apart and use the pearls in different pieces later on. I am still not too sure about this necklace, I might leave the cluster at the bottom and take off the extra six beads going up the chain. I don't know. This necklace came with earrings that I wear with it all the time. But I also wear the earring with most of my other pearl necklaces. So I should probably either buy or make some more pearl earrings.

Necklace Project Day 45

Today I wore a t-shirt so I was thinking I wasn't going to wear a necklace. But I realized if I am ever going to get through this project I really do need to wear a necklace every day. So I picked one that I don't wear all that often but wouldn't look too out of place if I wore it with a t-shirt.  I was also thinking today about the jewelry I make and I tend to make sets of things. Like a bracelet and earring set or necklace and earring set. I have even made a necklace, bracelet, earring set. But I am not sure if people who are looking for jewelry want sets or if they would rather just have one piece. One thing I do know is that it is hard to sell earrings. Because the ones I tend to make and like don't tend to be too popular. I don't know I might have to change my thinking on selling. That or just continue to give most of my stuff away.

This is a pretty simple gold necklace with an opal in the middle. I have had two of these necklaces but the gold tends to wear off really easy. I think this might have been an avon necklace but I am not sure. I know when I was replacing the one I had before I bought this one with a set of avon necklaces.

Necklace Project Day 44

Today was a day with a lot of necklaces. When I got home from school and finished cleaning up the kitchen I decided I needed to work on some jewelry. So I sent the next three hours make necklaces. Now I need to decide whether or not I am going to keep the new necklaces, sell them, or give them away. I guess I will see what the responses are when I finish posting them on facebook.

This is one of the random key necklaces that I bought a few years ago. I must have bought it at either Claire's or Icing because it is made of the cheap gold that wears off. But even though the gold has worn off it makes it look a little older that it really is. I might take this one apart one day and incorporate the pendant into another piece. I haven't decided yet.

Necklace Project Day 43

No I didn't get behind again. I just didn't wear a necklace yesterday because I knew I was going to be wrestling on the floor with about 8 kids so I didn't feel like being choked. That and I have a hard time wearing necklaces when I am wearing t-shirts.  On other necklace news (yes because I think it is news), today at church I saw about three necklaces I want to try and make. One in particular will be really easy since it is just a string of small peach colored freshwater pearls. So simple and elegant.

I am thinking this is the last of my clear crystal pendants but I could be wrong. I don't think I could have gotten a better picture to show the AB (aurora borealis) finish on the pendant. It is so pretty and I can wear it with a lot of different outfits. Actually today I was worried that I didn't have an outfit in Green River that would go with the outfit I had decided to wear to church. I was thinking about what I did have and thinking I might have to rethink my outfit. But then I remembered I had this necklace. I was also thinking how silly it was of my to dictate my outfit by what jewelry I had with me.

Necklace Days 41 & 42

Whew, only two at a time instead of five. Not too far behind. I am happy to say my nieces are obsessed with necklaces and they always mess with which ever one I have on. Their mother doesn't wear necklaces very often so they like mine. Well they like all jewelry really. So I have made them simple little cheap necklaces for Christmas and their birthdays for the last couple of years. I like that they are very girly.

I got this necklace as a graduation gift when graduated with my undergraduate. I received it from my boss and friend who made jewelry. This piece is pink pearls and garnet on illusion line. I usually wear the emerald cut post earrings she gave me with this necklace.

This is the first Swarovski crystal necklace I bought and what inspired my copycat necklaces. It is so fun because it is very delicate cut but held on a leather string. I have debated getting some small crystals in this pink to make earrings but I usually don't wear earrings with it and when I do they are very simple. Tonight as I was wearing it my 2 year old niece kept asking what it was. When I would tell her it was a necklace she would correct me and tell me it was a heart. Then she proceeded to try and shove the crystal into my chest. So I had to take it off before she decided to stick it somewhere else.

Necklace Project Day 40

The necklace I wore today I found actually works perfectly with the shirt I wore today. Happy chance. I know I have said it before but I think I am running out of necklaces. But I actually think it is just silver necklaces I am running out of. I need to wear my gold ones more often. I worked on some pieces last night but didn't finish anything I liked. Dad was teasing me that I don't need to buy any beads and that I have enough. He is right, but I still look.

I got this from my friend Stephanie for Christmas. It has earrings to go with it. At first I was unsure about the length but it is made of aluminum so it is light. The only problem is that since it is made of aluminum it bends so easily.

Necklace Project Day 39

I think I tried on three different necklaces today before I settled on the one I wore. I have gotten through the once that I tend to wear a lot and now I am on to the one that tend to be at the back of the jewelry box. Not really for any reason, they just aren't what I grab right away.

I think this is the only dycroic pendant that I bought at a retail store. I think I bought it at Michaels. The fun part about this piece is that it is different colors at different angles. Sometimes it is navy blue and others it has a lot more green. I also like the design on this pendant. One of the reason I haven't bought more of these pendants is because they are not as original as the ones I have bought at craft shows or in craft shops. I don't think I will try to make earrings to match this because it works with silver earrings.

Necklace Project Days 34, 35, 36, 37, 38 (Yep, five in a row))

As you can see from the title I have gotten a little behind again. And again I have been tempted to just forget it and wear whatever I want and not post anything. But I am determined to get through all of my necklaces. Thank heavens I didn't start out with only focusing on my earrings because I think I would have quit a long time ago. I could do a week on bracelets but that is because I don't have very many of those. But we will continue with the necklaces, hell or high water.

I seem to have an affinity for clear tear shaped pendants. This might be my last one but I am not sure. I bought this clear quartz pendant at either Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I am not sure which one. I had it sitting in my jewelry supplies for a while because I wasn't sure if I was going to keep in as it was, wire wrap it, or add color to it some how. In the end I simple strung it.
I actually found this necklace on the sidewalk a couple of years ago. It was broken and missing the clasp, which is why I figure it was on the ground in the first place. I put up a notice in the buildings close to where I found it, but no one claimed it. It is a string of grey freshwater pearls but when I restrung it the length was too short for my neck. I didn't get it in the picture but at the ends there are rice shaped hematite beads to add length to it and an adjustable chain clasp. Now I just need to get some bigger grey freshwater pearls to make earrings to go with it. I guess I could use hematite, but I would rather have pearls.
This is another one where I am not really sure where I got it. It is a cool piece only because I have not seen one like it before. It is a simple string of round tigers eye and mother-of-pearl beads with glass beads in between. I will probably have to restring it pretty soon. I was once told by a Native American gentleman who I was trying to sell a cellphone to that this necklace was very powerful and it would give me strength and wisdom. I am not so sure how that has worked out, but it is a neat piece all the same. Again I would like to find something to make earrings to match.

I am adding the earrings that I usually wear with this necklace because I just like them so much. I actually didn't make one to match the other, it just kind of happened. I made the necklace first a few years ago to go with a dress that I had. Then about 6 months ago I found the pattern for the earrings and made them as an experiment. It worked out great that they matched so well and now I don't often wear one without the other.
This is a wish marble necklace that my Mom made be quite a few years ago. She created this pattern and then wrote a poem to go with it. I can't remember the poem (sorry Mom) but I love this piece simply because it is so red, which is my favorite color. The beads are red and so is the marble. I have experimented with the wish marble pattern for years trying to find new ways to work it into different projects.

I realized as I looked over the last five necklaces that I have either made, or remade, or had made for me four out of the five. Hmm, wonder what to make of that?
